mypoints review

As part of my research for this review, I tested MyPoints for a month.

If you have been wondering whether or not this platform is worth your while, this detailed, unbiased MyPoints review 2020 should answer all your questions.

What is MyPoints?

MyPoints is a rewards program that allows its members to earn special points, called MyPoints, for taking surveys, shopping online, watching videos, playing games, and more.

These points can be redeemed for gift cards and cash rewards.

It is also possible to earn as much as 40% cashback on your online purchases when using this platform.

Founded in 1996, MyPoints is one of the first cashback and rewards sites. Today, it remains one of the leading online rewards portals.

It is completely free to sign up and start earning with MyPoints. You also get rewarded $10 for signing up.

How does MyPoints work?

MyPoints can be used in several ways:

1. As a cashback site

2. As a rewards program

3. As a survey site.

It works for all these options simultaneously.

If you enjoy shopping online, you can earn points for any purchases you make while shopping on your favorite sites.

All you have to do is visit your favorite store through your MyPoints account then shop exactly as you normally would.

Shopping online will not only earn you MyPoints for all your purchases, but you might also get cash back for qualifying purchases.

You can earn as much as 40% cashback on a single purchase.

You can also join the MyPoints rewards program and earn points for playing games, watching videos, and taking advantage of the daily special offers that will get sent to your account.

Finally, you can use MyPoints as a survey site and earn MyPoints for completing surveys.

The best part about this is that even if you do not qualify for a survey, as long as you attempt it, you’ll earn a minimum of 5 points.

Once you have collected enough points, you can choose to redeem them for gift cards, including prepaid Visa gift cards, or for cash which is paid out to your PayPal account.

How to earn points as a MyPoints member

I’ve talked about this a little earlier in this text. However, just to recap, here are all the ways you can earn MyPoints as a MyPoints member:

1. Earn cashback for shopping online

If you are planning to buy something online, you might as well get some of your money back while at it.

You can earn cashback in the form of MyPoints by shopping on MyPoints network online retailers.

MyPoints has a huge list of online retailers for you to choose from, so the options you have are nearly endless.

To earn cashback in this way, the first thing you have to do is make sure that your retailer of choice is a member of the MyPoints network.

If they are, click on their retailer link on MyPoints and shop exactly as you normally would. You’ll then get some MyPoints back for every purchase you make.

2. Earn points doing MyPoints surveys

Apart from Survey Junkie, MyPoints is also a great place to make money doing surveys.

The MyPoints survey portal gives you access to all the surveys available on MyPoints. You’ll be able to earn MyPoints or gift cards for completing them.

3. Earn with MyPoints Featured Offers

There is also a Featured Offers section where you will find a number of different special offers that you can use to earn even more points.

This section features special discounts from retailers, rewards for simply signing up to various programs online, and even the opportunity to earn points for donating money to various charities.

4. Save money with coupon codes

The MyPoints Coupon Codes page contains a list of all the latest coupon codes and special discounts.

There are thousands of coupon codes to look through, and because MyPoints has a massive selection of online retailers, you can be sure to find your favorite store here too.

5. Earn money redeeming coupon codes

Some coupons on MyPoints are even more valuable.

For example, if you go to the MyPoints Grocery Coupon page, you’ll find lots of coupons that will help you save money on your grocery shopping.

Printing these coupons will earn you 2 points per printed coupon.

At the same time, you’ll earn another 25 points when you redeem the coupons in-store!

6. Earn points playing MyPoints games

Different MyPoints games will let you earn differently.

There are games that you have to download and get to a certain level before earning a set number of points.

There are also games that you need to make in-game purchases and spend real-world money to earn the points.

Either way, you have a lot of options in each category, so if you love playing games, this will make you feel right at home.

7. Earn points watching random MyPoints videos

MyPoints features sports, gaming, technology, and entertainment, among other types of videos that you’ll get paid to watch.

These videos come from their sponsors and you get paid from part of the revenue they earn for marketing them on the site.

8. Earn points through BonusMail

MyPoints also has yet another option for earning points called BonusMail.

It is an opt-in service that allows you to earn MyPoints for opening and reading email ads from MyPoints.

9. Earn points through travel booking

MyPoints has also partnered with many online travel providers.

This makes it possible to earn rewards for simply booking your next trip. It is a great way to get amazing deals on something that you were already going to do anyway.

What is the payoff like?

When you first sign up for your MyPoints account, you’ll earn 30 points for answering questions as you complete your profile when creating your account.

If you join MyPoints using this link, you’ll also get an additional free $10 credited to your account.

Expect the biggest rewards when you use MyPoints as a cashback site.

As a MyPoints user, you can earn as much as 40% cashback on your online purchases. MyPoints works with all popular online retailers like Amazon and Target.

If you are only in it for the surveys, every survey has a different payout.

Some can earn you as much as $50 per completion, although these high-paying surveys are very rare.

On average, expect to earn between 50 to 150 points for every completed survey. You’ll also earn another 5 points for every attempted survey, whether you qualify or not.

You can redeem your points for cash or gift cards.

Gift cards start at $3 for 480 points. You can also get a $5 gift card for 700 points, which is a slightly better deal. If you want cash, you’ll have to save up 3970 points. This will get you $25.

There is also the option of redeeming your points for travel miles on your United MileagePlus account.

For this, you’ll have to save up at least 6900 points. This will translate to 2500 miles.

Is MyPoints worth it?

Well, the short answer to this is “it depends.”

MyPoints offers a variety of different methods that you can use to earn points. Each of these will have different payouts.

Typically, the online shopping option will have the biggest payouts.

It is possible to earn over 10000 points on a single purchase and up to 40% cashback when you shop online. This is a really sweet deal!

If you already shop online, you definitely should give MyPoints a try.

Using this platform will put money back into your pocket, rewarding you for what you already enjoy doing.

Plus, they have a massive selection of online retailers, including all the popular ones, which makes it absolutely worth your while.

If you intend to exclusively earn your points by doing surveys, you can expect to earn an average of about 2000 points per week if you spend an hour a day on MyPoints.

Of course, the more hours you put in, the more points you’ll earn. Only you can tell whether this is worth your time.

In my opinion, the fact that MyPoints is completely free to sign up for kinda makes it worth it, though.

Just don’t expect to make a life-changing sum of money. It’s just a little extra cash to do with as you please.

Disadvantages of using MyPoints

I think one of the biggest downsides of all online surveys is that you will not qualify for all the surveys.

They determine your eligibility based on your background. For example, a survey may need answers from 20-25-year-old women.

If you do not fall into this demographic, you will not qualify for this survey.

What makes MyPoints different is the fact that the disqualifications won’t go unrewarded: you still earn 5 points for each attempt on a survey, even if you are not eligible to take it.

Another downside of using MyPoints is the fact that the payouts are very low. Surveys will make you very little money.

The best workaround that I have found for this is to join multiple survey sites to maximize your earnings. I recommend combining MyPoints with Survey Junkie for a start.

Pro-tips for using MyPoints

  • Like any other survey site, expect to get a lot of promo emails when you sign up for MyPoints. This is why it is a good idea to set up a separate email account just for your survey sign-ups.
  • Because surveys pay so little, consider mixing things up a bit to maximize your earning potential. I like combining at least three survey sites at the same time. Start by signing up for MyPoints and Survey Junkie at the same time.
  • If you want to earn points playing games, I recommend only signing up for mobile games that pay out when you reach a certain level in the game. Avoid options that only pay when you make in-game purchases.
  • Since surveys are so easy to do, you’re probably going to end up doing a lot of them every day. Just remember to rest your eyes every once in a while.

Final Thoughts

Paid online surveys are popular ways of making money online because the work is ridiculously easy. You could probably get through 10+ surveys a day without even noticing it.

That said, if you are looking to make enough money to replace your current income, this is not the way to do it.

There are obviously other better ways of making money online that you might want to explore.

But if you just want to make a little extra cash on the side by answering surveys, I think MyPoints is a really great place to start.
